Manali on a long weekend sounds ambitious given the drive, but it works if you don't try to cram in Solang, Rohtang, and Kasol all in one trip. Pick a slower pace and one solid detour, and it feels like a real break rather than a transit marathon.

The route that actually fits

A Friday–Monday Plan

Fri nightOvernight Volvo from Delhi (or fly to Bhuntar/Kullu)
SatArrive, rest, Old Manali cafés in the evening
SunSolang Valley or a village walk (Jibhi/Naggar as a quieter option)
MonSlow morning, head back by afternoon

Flying into Bhuntar (Kullu) cuts the travel time to under an hour by road, and while flights aren't always cheap, they're worth pricing against an overnight bus once you factor in the day it saves.

Where to stay

Old Manali has the best cafés and river views but can get crowded on weekends. If you want quiet mornings, look slightly further out towards Solang or Naggar — you'll trade a five-minute walk to cafés for a more peaceful stay, and it's an easy trade for a short trip.

Skip Rohtang Pass on a long weekend unless you've already got a permit sorted — the queue alone can eat half a day you don't have.

Where to eat

A long weekend in Manali isn't about seeing everything — it's about the drive up through the valley, one good hike or village walk, and enough café time to actually feel rested by Monday.
