The Dubai weekend trip that doesn't feel rushed

Dubai gets typecast as a mall-and-skyscraper stopover, which undersells it for a proper long weekend. With direct flights from several Indian cities under four hours, it's one of the easiest short breaks to plan — the trick is not letting the itinerary default to shopping.

A 3-day plan beyond the malls

• Day 1: Old Dubai — an abra ride across the creek, the Gold and Spice Souks, dinner in Al Fahidi.
• Day 2: desert safari in the late afternoon, timed to catch dune bashing before sunset and dinner under the stars.
• Day 3: Alserkal Avenue for art and coffee in the morning, then the beach — JBR or Kite Beach — for a slower afternoon.

Getting around without overspending

The Dubai Metro is clean, fast, and covers more of the city than people expect — a day pass is a fraction of what taxis between the same stops would cost. Save the cabs for late-night returns or the airport run.

Three nights is enough to see a real mix of the city — old and new, desert and skyline — without feeling like you spent the whole trip in a food court.
